Well, I just love Summer and you know I just love DIY projects too! So today I rounded up all of my favorite and reader-favorite Summer projects from Cottage on Bunker Hill.
Summer DIY Projects To Make
Patriotic Rag Wreath
This is one of my latest Summer projects! It’s super simple too! If you can tie a knot you can make this Patriotic Rag Wreath. I used 4 different fabrics (mine are from Hobby Lobby) then cut them into 1-inch wide by 8-inch long strips and tied them onto a large wire wreath frame.

Easy Summer Door Basket
If you have a hanging basket and 5 minutes then this is the idea for you!! Using 2 bunches of dark red poppies from Michael’s (on sale for $3.99) a couple of stems of white Queen Ann’s Lace, and fern fronds I put together this Easy Summer Door Basket for a bright pop of color to welcome guests.
“Sea Glass” Wood Bead Garland
This project was inspired by something that I saw on Pottery Barn. They have a gorgeous glass bead garland but it’s almost $100! I was trying to create a similar look for a whole lot less…and I love how this “Sea Glass” Wood Bead Garland came out!
Pressed Microwave Flowers
I had seen this technique on Pinterest for pressing flowers and I was skeptical about it…so I had to try it out. Not only did these Pressed Microwave Flowers come of so vibrant…they really do dry out in the microwave!! The best part is that you don’t have to wait weeks pressing your flowers in big books to get the result…this takes 2 minutes!!
Sea Glass Bird Bath
This is one of my harder projects to make, it does take some time and a few different steps to create this Mosaic Sea Glass Bird Bath. But it is worth the time because it’s so pretty and adds such a unique touch to my cottage flower garden.
Seashell Shadow Boxes
Being a coastal girl I am always drawn to anything having to do with the beach. My Seashell Shadow Boxes were inspired by Pottery Barn. All I did was find 4 different types of seashells and create different patterns with each of them. Using a linen look fabric to cover the back and then gluing the shells in place.
Painted Terra Cotta Bowl
We have a store in town called Ocean State Job Lots, it’s a New England store chain that is a big discount store. Let me tell you that it’s my go-to spot for flower containers and pots! The prices are amazing and they carry a large selection of Italian terra cotta pieces in different shapes and sizes. For this Painted Terra Cotta Bowl, I tried to transform it into a pottery look using paint and a spray glaze.
Coastal Summer Wreath
This is one of my favorite wreaths that I have made…and as I’m typing this I am wondering why I haven’t pulled it out yet!! After I’m done writing… Using a moss-covered wreath (craftoutlet.com it’s my secret source for crafting supplies!!) all I did was glue some faux sand dollars and starfish to the frame to create this simple Coastal Summer Wreath.
Patriotic Flower Crate
Here’s a fun Summer idea! Paint an unfinished wood crate (Walmart) in red, white, and blue paint add a couple of patriotic embellishments, and fill it with pretty flowers! This Patriotic Flower Crate is perfect to display on your front porch this Summer!
Flag Inspired Shutter
If you have an old shutter or can find one at your local vintage shop this Flag Inspired Shutter is a great Summer project idea! Grab red, white, and blue paint and design it however you would like! I used starfish to represent the stars to give it some coastal charm. This small shutter has a hook on the back so I can hang it horizontally too.
Step 2 Playhouse Makeover
Do you have a plastic playhouse for your kids or grandkids?? It’s amazing what you can do with a few cans of spray paint!! This playhouse makeover can work on any style and brand of plastic playhouse…you can paint yours to match your house!
Raised Garden Bed with Trellis
Here’s one for my gardening friends!! When I was trying to come up with something to give us a little privacy from the road but also a place for more plants. If you like to work with wood and tools then you should try building one of these Raised Garden Beds for your yard this Summer.
