As the seasons change, so do our surroundings. Spring, in particular, brings with it a sense of renewal and rejuvenation. What better way to embrace this transformation than by bringing the outdoors in? In this blog post, we’ll explore creative ideas to refresh your living space with the beauty of nature, using fresh flowers, potted plants, and handmade natural decor.
A Spring Refresh with Natural Elements: Tips and Tricks for Bringing the Outdoors In
Spring is a time for new beginnings and fresh starts. It’s a season of renewal and growth, and what better way to embrace it than by incorporating natural elements into your home decor? Whether you’re looking to spruce up your living room, bedroom, or any other space, adding natural elements can bring a sense of calm and tranquility to your surroundings.
One way to incorporate natural elements into your decor is by using plants. Plants not only add a pop of color to any room, but they also help purify the air and can even boost your mood. Consider adding a few small plants to your desk or windowsill, or create a statement piece by hanging a larger plant from the ceiling. Another way to bring nature indoors is by using natural materials such as wood, stone, and woven textiles. These materials add texture and warmth to a space and can help create a cozy, inviting atmosphere.

The Fundamentals of Natural Design
As someone who loves incorporating natural elements into my home decor year-round, I’ve learned a few fundamentals of natural design that I’d like to share with you. These tips will help you create a space that feels fresh, organic, and calming.
The Beauty of Natural Materials
One of the easiest ways to bring nature into your home is by using organic materials. This can include anything from wood and stone to plants and flowers.
When choosing materials, look for items that have a natural texture or pattern. For example, a wooden coffee table with visible grain or natural fiber throw pillows.
Plants are also a great way to incorporate organic materials into your home. Not only do they add a pop of color, but they also help purify the air. If you’re new to plant parenthood, start with low-maintenance options like succulents or snake plants. These plants require minimal watering and can thrive in a variety of lighting conditions.
Understanding Color Palettes
When it comes to natural design, color palettes are key. Earthy tones like browns, greens, and blues are a great starting point. These colors are calming and can help create a relaxing atmosphere in your space, which is perfect for Spring.
You can also incorporate pops of color through plants, flowers, or artwork. For example, a vase filled with bright tulips will add a cheerful Spring touch to your room.
When choosing colors, it’s important to consider how they work together. Stick to a cohesive color palette to create a harmonious space. For example, if you’re using a lot of greens and blues, consider adding a few pops of warm brown or beige to balance out the cool tones.
Overall, incorporating natural elements into your home is a great way to create a refreshing and calming space. By using organic materials and a cohesive color palette, you can create a space that feels like a peaceful retreat.

Revitalizing Spaces with Greenery
Adding plants to your living space is an easy and effective way to rejuvenate your home decor. Not only do indoor plants contribute to better air quality, but they also bring a touch of nature indoors and create a calming atmosphere.
Selecting Indoor Plants
When selecting indoor plants, consider the lighting and humidity levels in your home. Some plants thrive in bright, direct sunlight while others prefer low-light conditions. Additionally, some plants like a humid home, so it’s important to choose plants that are well-suited to your home’s environment. An example would be Boston ferns…they do horrible indoors during the winter here in New England because it’s so dry.
Here are a few low-maintenance indoor plants that are perfect for beginners:
- Snake Plant
- Pothos

- ZZ Plant

Creating a Miniature Garden
Another way to incorporate greenery into your home is by creating a miniature garden. This is a great option for those who have limited space or want to add a unique touch to their decor.
To create a miniature garden, start by selecting a container that is the appropriate size for your plants. You can use anything from a small pot to a vintage teacup or glass jar. Next, choose a variety of plants that will thrive in the container’s environment.
Here are a few miniature garden ideas to get you started:
- Succulent Garden
- Herb Garden
- Terrarium
By adding indoor plants or creating a miniature garden, you can easily refresh your living space and bring a touch of nature indoors. Not only will your home look great, but you’ll also enjoy the many benefits that indoor plants provide.
Fresh Flowers
Welcome Spring by filling your home with fragrant bouquets of fresh blooms. Place eye-catching arrangements in prominent areas like entryways and living rooms. Small, sweet vases on bedside tables or in bathrooms provide a cheerful touch in unexpected places.
One of my favorite ways to incorporate fresh flowers is to create a simple bouquet of seasonal blooms. I like to mix and match different flowers to create a unique and eye-catching arrangement. Some of my go-to flowers for spring include daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths.
Local farmer’s markets and grocery stores are your best sources for what’s blooming freshest in your area. Trader Joe’s is my go-to spot for flowers.
Another way to incorporate fresh flowers is to place them in unexpected places, like on a bookshelf or in a bathroom. It’s a small touch that can make a big impact. I love to fill a vase with fresh eucalyptus and place it on the bathroom vanity!
Overall, fresh flowers are a simple and affordable way to add a touch of nature and freshness to any space.

Seasonal Refresh Tips
Here are some tips for updating your natural aesthetic:
- Swap out accessories: Change out your throw pillows, blankets, and other accessories to reflect the changing seasons. For example, in the Spring and Summer, opt for lighter fabrics and brighter colors.
- Incorporate seasonal plants: Bring the outdoors in by incorporating seasonal plants into your decor. In the Spring, opt for flowers like tulips or daffodils, and in the Fall, fill vases with colorful branches and decorate with colorful gourds.
- Update your lighting: Switch out your lamps or even lampshades to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. In the Spring you could add a rattan or glass lamp to lighten up the space.
By following these tips, you can maintain a natural aesthetic in your home that is both beautiful and functional.
