Rustic Spring Elegance: DIY Wreath with Feathers & Flowers
Spring is in the air, and what better way to welcome the season than with a fresh, natural wreath for your front door or mantel? Today, I’m sharing a step-by-step tutorial for creating a Fresh & Feathery Spring Wreath that combines wax flowers, Spanish moss, birch twigs, foam eggs, and guinea hen feathers for a cozy, nest-like feel. This wreath is perfect for cottage-style homes or anyone who loves earthy, textured decor. Let’s get started!

What You Will Need
Materials for this Project
- 18″ straw wreath form
- 2 bunches of white wax flowers (faux flowers work great too!)
- Spanish moss (for that soft, nest-like texture)
- Birch twigs (to add a rustic, woodsy touch)
- Foam natural-looking eggs (use colorful eggs for an Easter vibe)
- Guinea hen feathers (for a delicate, whimsical finish)
- Glue gun (essential for securing moss in place)
Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Step 1: Add The Wax Flowers

- Take your bunches of white wax flowers and break them into smaller sprigs. Arrange them around the wreath, spacing them out evenly for a balanced look. I stuck the stems directly into the straw wreath but you can use your glue gun to secure each sprig in place if you find that easier.
- If you don’t have fresh wax flowers, faux flowers are a great substitute and will last much longer!

Step 2: Fill with Spanish Moss

- Now it’s time to create that soft, nest-like texture! Take handfuls of Spanish moss and tuck them into the wreath, filling in the gaps between the flowers. Use your glue gun to secure the moss in place. This step really gives the wreath a natural, organic feel—like a little bird’s nest waiting for spring.

Step 3: Add the Foam Eggs

- For another subtle Spring touch, nestle a few foam eggs into the moss and flowers. First I clustered groups of 3 eggs around the wreath.

- Then I went in and glued a single egg between each cluster. They add a playful, seasonal vibe without overwhelming the natural look. If you’re making this wreath for Easter feel free to use small colorful eggs!
Step 4: Incorporate the Birch Twigs

- Next, add a rustic touch with birch twigs. Tuck them into the moss and flowers, bending or trimming them to fit the shape of the wreath. The twigs add a lovely woodsy element that complements the softness of the moss and flowers
6. Attach the Guinea Hen Feathers

- Finally, it’s time for the feathers! Take your guinea hen feathers and arrange them in either small clusters or single feathers around the wreath. Tuck them into the moss and flowers, you can secure them with your glue gun but I just push them into the straw wreath form.
- The feathers add a delicate, whimsical finish that ties the whole look together.
7. Final Touches

- Step back and take a look at your wreath. If you notice any gaps, add more moss, flowers, or feathers to fill them in. The goal is to create a balanced, natural look that feels effortless and inviting.
Tips & Tricks

- Substitutions: Don’t have wax flowers? Use faux flowers, dried lavender, or eucalyptus for a similar effect. You can also swap guinea hen feathers for other types of feathers or even dried grasses.
- Longevity: If you use fresh flowers, keep in mind that your wreath will have a shorter lifespan (wax flowers look like baby’s breath when they dry).
- Display: Protect from the elements to preserve its beauty as long as possible.
- Customization: Make this wreath your own by incorporating your favorite spring colors or elements. Try adding pastel ribbons, dried citrus slices, or even small nests for extra charm.
Now It’s Your Turn!

And there you have it—a Fresh & Feathery Spring Wreath that’s perfect for welcoming the season! I love how the Spanish moss creates that cozy, nest-like texture, while the wax flowers, birch twigs, and feathers add layers of natural beauty. This wreath would look stunning on a front door, above a mantel, or even make a smaller version and use it as a centerpiece for your Spring table!
