Materials List
- Small Straw Wreath Form (Hobby Lobby has a better price)
- Twigs and/or Pussy Willows
- Guinea Hen Feathers
- Dried Bunny Tails
- Reindeer Moss
- Wooden and/or Natural Tone Foam Eggs
- Scissors
Step-by-Step Instructions
Before you get started gather all of your materials and I would suggest covering your worksurface with newspaper or kraft paper, the straw will get a little messy during the process of making your nest.
1. Create the Nest Shape
Before you begin, grab a plate or small tray to use as the base for your bird’s nest. Make sure it’s at least as large as the straw wreath—this will help keep everything contained and make it easier to move your finished creation once it’s done!
Start by loosening the straw on the wreath form to give it a more natural, nest-like appearance. Gently pull apart the straw with the side of a pair of scissors or your your fingers, fluffing it up to create a cozy, textured base.
As you loosen the straw, some pieces may fall off—don’t toss them! Use these loose strands to fill in the open center of the wreath form, creating a fuller, more natural-looking nest
3. Add Natural Textures
Next, tuck in small twigs and pussy willows around the nest to mimic the look of a real bird’s nest. Arrange them unevenly for a more organic feel. I’m using small pieces of bittersweet vine that naturally has curly look
4. Incorporate Feathers and Grass
Scatter guinea hen feathers throughout the nest for a soft, whimsical touch. Then, add a few pieces of dried bunny tail grass to give it a playful, Springy vibe.
5. Fill With Moss
To fill the center of the bird’s nest, I used natural-toned reindeer moss for a soft, neutral look. If you’d like to add a pop of color, green moss would work beautifully too—it’s all about personalizing your nest to match your style!
6. Add The Eggs
Finally, fill the center of the nest with an assortment of wooden and natural Easter eggs. Arrange them in a way that feels balanced and visually appealing.
