Step-by-Step Instructions
Let me walk you through each step of this DIY with photos to make it easier. I want to make sure you can recreate it on your own.
1.Prepare the Pinecones
To create this charming door hanger, you’ll need 3 large pinecones. You can find these at craft stores (craft fairs/vintage markets too) or even gather them yourself during a nature walk. If you can’t find large pinecones, no worries! Five or seven medium-sized ones will work just as well (and may be easier to find for you).
Once you have your pinecones, cut three 15-inch lengths of jute twine. Secure one end of each piece of twine to the top of a pinecone using hot glue.
2. Create the Greenery Swag
To create a lush greenery swag, gather fresh cedar and eucalyptus sprigs. Wrap the greenery together securely using floral wire, ensuring a tight and cohesive bundle.
You can customize your door hanger by using different types of fresh greenery, such as pine or fir. If you prefer, you can also use faux stems for a more permanent decoration.
3. Assemble the Hanger
Pinecones
Hold the pinecone bundle by the jute twine and adjust the spacing between the pinecones. The middle pinecone should hang lower than the other two. Experiment until you find a look you love!
Tie the ends of the jute twine to the grapevine wreath, adjusting the pinecones before tying a knot in the twine. Cut off the extra jute twine.
greenery
Secure the greenery swag to the grapevine wreath using a piece of jute twine. Once it’s in place, use garden shears to trim any excess stems for a clean look.
4. Add Finishing Touches
To complete the door hanger, I first added three small bells and a dried orange slice. You can find small bells on picks at craft stores (my bells are from a Hobby Lobby pick).
Then tied a vintage-style velvet ribbon to the top of the grapevine wreath
Quick Guide
- Prepare the Pinecones: Attach jute cord to the base of each pinecone and bundle them together.
- Create the Greenery Swag: Gather fresh cedar and eucalyptus, then wrap them together with floral wire.
- Assemble the Hanger: Attach the pinecone bundle to a grapevine wreath and the greenery swag to grapevine wreath
- Add Finishing Touches: Wire small bells and a dried orange slice to the wreath, then tie a velvet ribbon for a final touch.
Hang It Up!
And there you have it! A simple and stunning DIY pinecone door hanger. This project is a great way to add a touch of natural beauty to your home. By following these easy steps, you can create a unique and personalized decoration. Remember, the beauty of this project lies in its simplicity and versatility. Feel free to experiment with different colors, textures, and materials.
