5 Easy Ways To Decorate For Fall

Who else loves decorating for Fall…raise your hands!! I know it’s Summer but I’m already thinking about Fall- maybe it’s the crazy humidity or it could be the bunnies and chipmunks wreaking havoc in my garden but I’m starting to dream about crisp air and pumpkins from the farm down the street from me! Here are my 5 easy ways to decorate for Fall.

Here’s a look at my 5 easy ways to decorate for Fall with some of my favorite Fall decor looks from the past few years.

1. Easy Fall Shelf Displays

One easy way to decorate for Fall is to style a shelf in your home. Here are a few of my favorite shelves that I styled for Fall.

I just love a white pumpkin…I think they are my favorite kind! White pumpkins fit into so many design styles; they look just as pretty in a farmhouse setting as they do in a French country home. I tend to lean towards coastal cottage style here at the Cottage On Bunker Hill.

You can mix them with natural elements like I did here. I mixed in dried hydrangeas from my garden with pine cones I had foraged. To add to the natural, rustic style I added burlap to my hand-painted sign and a garland of grapevine running across the shelf.

This was my favorite! I hand-painted my sign from one I had seen on Pinterest. I used all the traditional Autumn colors; orange, brown, cream, and red. I made this simple design by starting with a berry pip Fall garland on the shelf. I added a grapevine pumpkin and 2 white corn husk pumpkins and then popped in apple and pumpkin floral picks, I finished it off by adding two loose pumpkins to fill in the gaps.

All my favorite Fall items are displayed in my kitchen. On top of my white kitchen hutch, I added some artificial pumpkins that I had chalk painted with white and green paint. To stick with the soft green colors I added eucalyptus stems and dried hydrangeas. I finished the display off with rattan pumpkins.

2. Easy Tabletop Fall Decor

I go all-in for Fall! I just have to look out my windows and I’m surrounded by so many amazing Fall colors that it’s hard not to be inspired!

This more glam Fall display started with an antique frame and I added a glittery berry pip garland as the base. I wanted a brown & green theme and used velvet pumpkins, and sparkling mini pumpkins, and finished it all off with green mosses and pine cones.

My velvet pumpkins took on a more farmhouse feel when I added them to a galvanized tiered tray with mini pumpkins and greenery.

Mini white pumpkins sit atop distressed candlesticks. This set of candlesticks was originally a dark walnut color. I used a combo of white, light brown, and beige chalk paints to give them a more distressed look.

3. Dried Hydrangeas For Easy Fall Decorating

I’m lucky enough to live in a part of the country where we can grow hydrangeas! I personally love blue hydrangeas and grow the prettiest Endless Summer variety in front of my house.

By late Summer the blossoms start to change color and their texture becomes more papery; this is the time I cut some of the prettiest stems for drying. You can see my super easy method for drying hydrangeas here.

The dried hydrangea stems are the perfect partner for white, blue, or green pumpkins.

This table centerpiece is so simple to put together…seriously, I think it took 2 minutes! I used a few silvery-green stems to fill the bottom of the galvanized container, then I popped in 3 mini pumpkins, tucked in the dried hydrangea stems, tossed in pine cones, and nestled some grapevine into the back for a little height.

Above a kitchen hutch, I also used a few stems of dried hydrangeas along with painted pumpkins, lamb’s ear stems, rattan pumpkins, and pine cones.

I tucked a rope bowl filled with dried hydrangeas into a bookshelf. The rope bowl is an easy DIY too!

4. Fall Door Decor

This Dollar Tree DIY is one of the most popular posts I have on my site! For just a couple of dollars and under an hour you can make one for your front door!

It’s nice to change things up on your doors and use something besides a wreath to decorate. I have had this basket from Antique Farmhouse for a few years and have used it in countless ways! I added a few Fall floral picks and a raffia ribbon and hung it on my garage entryway door.

This is a new version of my door basket.

5. Fall Front Porch

Decorating my front porch for the Fall season is one of my absolute favorite times of the year! Yes, I do like decorating for the other 3 seasons but there’s something about Fall that I just enjoy so much.

One Fall I did what I thought was a pretty simple porch display. Using artificial pumpkins for the most part because there was an insane amount of squirrels in New Hampshire for that year and they were destroying everything. Honestly, there are few things sadder than looking out of your front door and seeing pumpkin guts all over your porch!!

This was the Fall front porch at my old house. It was such a great area to decorate! I mixed all the traditional Fall colors with a few white pumpkins tucked in.

I even snuck in some fake pumpkins on the porch! The trick to making that foam white pumpkin look more realistic was to add some dark brown paint in the crevices and wipe a little antiquing wax over the entire thing.

Even before I had even imagined my career path would lead me to have my own website to share all my decorating ideas I was creating elaborate Fall porches.

Orange pumpkins, mums, and corn stalks made this a very traditional take on Fall. I handpainted the Pumpkins sign using one I saw on Pinterest as a template.
