Materials & Tools
- White reindeer moss ( I used about half of 8oz bag)
- Metal heart-shaped wreath (hobby lobby & dollar store)
- Wide mesh ribbon (I used this)
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Ribbon
Step-by-Step Tutorial
Step 1: Prepare the Wreath Frame:
Before adding the moss to the wreath frame we need to create more surface area for the moss to adhere to, this will be done by wrapping the wreath with a wide neutral ribbon. I found this mesh ribbon at Hobby Lobby in a moss shade that worked perfectly. Just find something inexpensive since it will be covered with moss anyway!
Apply a bead of hot glue to the top of one of the heart bows. Secure the end of the ribbon to the glue. Once the glue has dried, wrap the ribbon tightly around the wire wreath frame, ensuring it covers the entire frame.
When you reach the starting point, cut the ribbon and apply another bead of hot glue to secure the other end of the ribbon.
- Wrap the metal wreath frame tightly with the ribbon, creating a surface for the moss to adhere to.
- Secure the ribbon with hot glue
Step 2. Add the Reindeer Moss
Prep your workspace: Have your hot glue gun and extra glue sticks readily available. A wooden chopstick or a similar tool will be your best friend for holding the moss in place while the glue sets. This will prevent you from burning your fingers!
Start small: While it might seem tempting to apply large clumps of reindeer moss to your heart wreath, using smaller pieces will result in a more natural and evenly covered wreath. Trust me on this one!
Next, focus on the edges: Once the main body of the wreath is covered, use the hot glue gun to fill in the outer and inner edges of the wreath with additional moss. This will create a more finished and polished look.
Finally, to achieve a truly full and lush appearance, I added a few more small clumps of moss to the surface of the heart wreath, paying attention to any areas that might look sparse.
- Start with the outer edges: Apply small clumps of moss to the outer edge of the wreath frame using the hot glue gun.
- Work your way inwards: Gradually work your way towards the center of the wreath, filling in any gaps and ensuring even coverage.
- Focus on the edges: Once the main body of the wreath is covered, add moss to the outer and inner edges for a polished look.
- Create fullness: Add small clumps of moss to the surface of the wreath to create a full and lush appearance
Tip: Hold your wreath up to the light and see if you have missed any areas, then just glue small clumps of the reindeer moss to fill them in.
Step 3: Finishing Touches:
To finish off the wreath create a simple bow using a piece of frayed velvet ribbon or something similar (Hobby Lobby has lots of colors and it’s the best price I have found anywhere for velvet ribbon). To secure the bow to the wreath run a piece of floral wire through the back loop.
