How to Decorate a Natural & Neutral Christmas Tree

In: Christmas Decorating Ideas & Projects, DECORATING, Decorating Tips & Tricks

This year I wanted to make my living room a cozy spot to stay warm this Christmas season. This included my natural & neutral Christmas tree!

Ideas for Decorating a Natural & Neutral Christmas Tree

What is a natural and neutral-themed Christmas tree? There are many different styles for doing a themed Christmas tree. A natural and neutral Christmas tree is decorated with lots of white and brown shades along with ornaments made from natural elements like wood and metals.

Start with a garland

To decorate my tree this year I started by adding a white (more cream) wool garland that I found at Walmart. Boy, their Christmas dept. is on fire…so many on-trend items!!

Simple natural or cream-colored wood bead garlands would look amazing with this decorating style too!

Ornaments

I only added a few new ornaments to my tree this year…some pretty silver baubles from Walmart ($2.98 pack) and big white snowballs from Hobby Lobby.

I also had a box full of ornaments from my Flocked Christmas Tree last year that I also used (all from Walmart) that worked perfectly with this natural-themed tree. Lots of fuzzy little owls to tuck in the tree!!

DIY ornaments

OK…I may have gone a little DIY crazy this season… a teensy bit…

I made 11 different Christmas ornaments! I hung them on this tree and a red & white themed tree that I have set up in my kitchen.

After the garland was on the tree. It was time to add the larger ornaments. I like to start with the big ornaments and then fill in any gaps with the smaller ones.

I also tucked in lots of owl ornaments into the branches…it’s a fun touch.

Another way I layered in natural elements was by adding these mini grapevine wreaths. I pulled out pieces of grapevine from a garland and then just made a little wreath with a few pieces (using a small piece of floral wire to secure it)…that’s how I got the light and airy feeling.

For a little whimsy, I popped in pieces of dried ornamental grass plumes from my garden throughout the Christmas tree.

There are lots of metallic ornaments scattered over the tree…I had a rose gold thing this year for sure!!

None of the metallics that I used was bright in- your- face…more muted and modern looking.

Christmas tree with ornaments

To finish off my natural & neutral themed Christmas tree I found this fuzzy owl tree topper at Walmart for $12. I made a little nest for him to sit on with grapevine and ornamental grass.

I think this is my favorite all-time Christmas tree that I have decorated! All the ornaments look so pretty together…especially at night when the lights are glowing!

Have a wonderful holiday season friends!! Blessings to you and your family!! – Jennifer

here are a few fun facts…

  1. I’ve lived in New England my entire life! This is good because the beach is my favorite place to be…even in the winter, I love to go breathe in the salt air.
  2. I am an EARLY BIRD!!! I rarely sleep past 4…it’s my favorite time of day and those wee hours are my most productive. (plus, I LOVE coffee!!)
  3. The Gilmore Girls is my favorite all-time TV show…I’ve seen every episode at least 20 times!! “You jump, I jump, Jack” is my #1 favorite. (I.Y.K.Y.K.)
