Do you ever just feel like you need to change things up just a little bit?? I’m not talking change out all your furniture but just sprucing up your space and making it feel fresh. Here are my easy ways to refresh your living room that won’t break the budget!
My Living Room Updates
This is the time of the year I like to freshen up my home before the warm weather and my garden take me outside for months!
Lately, I have been so drawn to more warm colors: browns, creams, and coppers. Last year my living room was mainly blues and gray tones.

Change Out Throw Pillows
One of the easiest ways to refresh your living room is by changing out your throw pillows. You don’t even need to buy all new pillows…you can find throw pillow covers and put them right over your old pillows!
For my Winter Home Tour, I found throw pillow covers on Amazon and put them over the pillows from the last picture.
For this living room update, my inspiration for the entire room was a throw pillow cover from Pottery Barn that I could not get out of my mind!!
The colors and feel of this pillow cover were exactly what I was going for in my living room this season. They are pricey (well, I think they are pricey because I’m always on the search for a bargain!!) but I got you, friends…did you know that you can find new ones on eBay too?? Well, I didn’t know that until I started searching on Google for similar-looking cases. So search “Pottery Barn Palna” and you might luck out and find some for less that are also new in the package (I don’t want to put a link because stock changes so rapidly on eBay).
One of the best decorating tricks for making your throw pillows look high-end is to buy pillow inserts that are 2 inches bigger than the cover. This creates a fluffy full look just like you see in the catalogs.
I ordered a couple of sets of these pillow inserts from Amazon in the 24 x24 inch size. When I first opened the packages (they are vacuum-sealed) I wasn’t sure what the hype and amazing reviews were about…thought I had been duped. But by the next day they puffed up so much and they are so comfy to rest on when I’m watching TV.
One thing I was looking for was linen throw pillow covers but I didn’t want to spend alot on them. I have to say that the set I ordered on Amazon looks amazing…much more expensive than the $22 I spent for TWO of them!! The stitching detail around the edges is fantastic too.

Change Wall Art
Another easy update I made was changing out the art prints that I have hanging above my sectional. I’ve had the gallery wall up since last summer when I did a collaboration with Poster Store.
This is the second time I switched out the artwork since then. In the winter I added some snowy seasonal prints and now I ordered some beautiful posters with meadows and pretty water scenes.
The quality of the prints is very nice and even though the company ships from Sweden my order got here in less than a week…they also have really good sales and you know I love a bargain!!
Use What I Already Have
One of my top tips for decorating your home is to shop it!!
Go around from room to room and see what you already have that you could move around for a fresh new look in your home.
I moved the console I had previously had on the other side of my living room over to near my entryway along with a large wall clock.
The chair (Better Homes & Gardens, Walmart) was from my bedroom, it will do for now but in the future, I would like to find a chair in a different color since my sectional is also gray. It’s a nice sturdy chair and I sit in it to write all the time (I’m sitting in it typing right now!!) but I just noticed that the price has jumped since I bought it 1.5 years ago.
To replace the other TV console I brought up one that I had in a basement room that wasn’t being used much anymore… you should have seen my teenage son and me carrying it up the cellar stairs…holy moly!!
This Better Homes & Gardens media console fits in perfectly with the tone of my room and even has an electric fireplace built-in…which has been fantastic on the chilly mornings lately (I refuse to turn on the heat in April!!)
Bookcase
The one big thing that I did buy was a tall bookcase to put in the back corner of the room It brought height into the space and created a focal point when you walk into the room.
You can read all the details and how I styled this bookcase here.
Coffee Table
Since I added a chair into my living room my coffee table seemed just too big for the room. Then I got my hands on a free coffee table and did a cool makeover to it!
On the top, I added a tray with a vase with some cool artificial fern stems that I brought back from my trip to the Magnolia Market in Waco last Summer…you should have seen me trying to shove them in my suitcase!!! Here are this year’s Magnolia fern stems, the quality of their artificial flowers and wreaths is extremely nice.
Finished Living Room
Here’s my refreshed living room. I love how warm and welcoming it feels now. One other thing I did was add lots of plants around the space too. Not only do I love plants but the shapes of the leaves soften the lines of the room.
Your living room is so welcoming! I love the beige pillow cover. Thanks for sharing!
I love your design style.
Thank you, Tiffany!!!
Love the artwork and your rug is amazing! Your room looks so good! Now on to your garden!
I’m heading out there in just a couple of minutes!! The early bird and alll…
I have always loved those pillow covers from pottery barn. They are gorgeous!
