It was so chilly here last weekend, you know one of those days that you just can’t get warm even after you’ve been in your warm house for a while. I figured it was a perfect day to make a nice big pot of turkey chili! It’s such an easy slow cooker recipe to throw together too.
How To Make An Easy Turkey Chili for the Slow Cooker
Ingredients for This Turkey Chili Recipe
- 2 pounds ground turkey
- 1 cup diced yellow onion
- 4 garlic cloves; minced
- 2 28-ounce cans crushed tomatoes
- 1 28-ounce can diced tomatoes
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 15-ounce cans kidney beans
- 2 4-ounce cans chopped green chilis
- 1/4 cup chili powder
- 3 teaspoons cumin
- 2 teaspoons oregano
- 2 teaspoons cocoa
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- salt & pepper to taste

1.) Cook The Ground Turkey First
It starts with cooking up 2 lbs. of ground turkey in a large pan with a little olive oil.
Once the turkey was cooked through I added the diced onion and minced garlic and continued to cook until the onion was softened and translucent.
Then I added the ground turkey to my slow cooker. This is the newer version of my slow cooker.
2.) Add The Rest of The Ingredients To The Slow Cooker
Now it’s time to just dump the rest of the ingredients into the slow cooker…don’t you love easy recipes!!
After the ground turkey mixture was in the slow cooker I added the following ingredients:
- 2 (28-ounce) cans of crushed tomatoes
- 1 (28-ounce) can of diced tomatoes
- 1 cup of chicken broth
- 2 (15-ounce) cans of kidney beans
- 2 (4-ounce) cans of chopped green chilis.
Give it a good stir!
3.) Add The Spices
Then it is time to add the spices to the slow cooker.
- 1/4 cup chili powder
- 3 teaspoons cumin
- 2 teaspoons oregano
- 2 teaspoons cocoa
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- salt & pepper to taste
Stir until all the spices are thoroughly mixed into the turkey chili. Cook on low for 6 hours.
4.) Serving Suggestions
Once the chili is done serve it in bowls with any of the following toppings.

- Crushed Tortilla Chips
- Sliced Green Onions
- Avocado
- Cilantro

Easy Slow Cooker Turkey Chili
Easy turkey chili recipe. It's the perfect weeknight dinner idea. Full of flavor from spices, tomatoes, and beans.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground turkey
- 1 cup diced yellow onion
- 4 garlic cloves; minced
- 2 28 ounce cans crushed tomatoes
- 1 28 ounce can diced tomatoes
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 15 ounce cans kidney beans
- 2 4 ounce cans chopped green chilis
- 1/4 cup chili powder
- 3 teaspoons cumin
- 2 teaspoons oregano
- 2 teaspoons cocoa
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
Add olive oil to a large saute pan and brown the ground turkey until no longer pink.
Add diced onions and minced garlic and continue to cook until the onion becomes soft and translucent.
Turn your slow cooker to low heat. Add the cooked turkey mixture.
Pour in crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, kidney beans, chicken broth, and diced chilis. Stir well
Add all the spices and stir again.
Cook on low heat for 6 hours.
Notes
Topping Suggestions: sour cream, shredded cheese, crushed tortilla chips, avocado, & sliced green onions.
Serve with corn bread or tortilla chips.

I have never used turkey, but maybe the next time I make it, I’ll try it out.
Oh, I actually prefer the turkey to ground beef now! It doesn’t feel as heavy in your belly.
