I don’t even remember where I first found this recipe but it was at least 20 years ago. To this day, it is still the best banana bread recipe I have ever made!
This banana bread recipe was one of the first things I learned to bake when I went out on my own. I still have the original index card that I wrote it down on but it’s a little worn and has a few splatter spots on it now (always a sign of a winning recipe).
How to Make Banana Bread
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup softened butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups ripe bananas (3-4); mashed
- 1/3 cup water
- 1 2/3 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- optional: 1/2 cup nuts or mini chocolate chips
Steps
Preheat oven to 350°. Grease the bottom of a loaf pan.
Mix sugar and butter. Stir in eggs.
Add bananas and water; beat 30 seconds.
Stir in remaining ingredients (except nuts or chocolate chips) until just moistened.
Stir in nuts or chips.
**I top mine with mini chips and coarse sugar**
Pour into the loaf pan and bake for about 1 hour (sometimes it’s more like an hour and 10 minutes).
Cool and Enjoy!!
