Here’s a sweet project for Spring using a few craft store supplies. Come learn how to make a pair of birdhouse candlesticks to use throughout your home this season.
Here’s a cute craft that I did for HometalkTV last month. The fun thing is that you can personalize them to your own style or decor! Here’s what you will need to make your own birdhouse candlesticks.

- Unfinished Birdhouses
- Unfinished Candlesticks
- Chalk or Acrylic Paints
- Wood Slices
- Mini Grapevine Wreath
- Mini Bird or Eggs (optional)
1. Paint The Birdhouse
I’m using $1 birdhouses from Walmart but most craft stores carry them in the unfinished wood aisle.
For this birdhouse, I painted the body of the house white and the roof a dark brown.
2. Make A Roof
Since I have a zillion pinecones in my yard from the past winter, I found a good use for a couple of them!
I cut the narrow top off of the pine cone and pulled off the pieces.
Then I hot glued the pieces onto the roof of the birdhouse. It didn’t take long at all!!
To finish up the roof I glued a row of the pine cone pieces down the center of the roof. It came out so cute!!
A quick dry brushing over the white paint with dark brown picked up the textures and added detail to the birdhouse.
3. Paint The Candlestick
Using the same white chalk paint that I used for the birdhouse, I painted the unfinished candlestick.
4. Paint A Small Terracotta Saucer
I’m going to use a small terracotta saucer for the base of the birdhouse candlestick and painted it with the same white chalk paint that was used for the birdhouse and the candlestick.
5. Assembling the Candlestick
Once all the paint was dry it was time to put it all together.
First I glued the birdhouse onto a wood slice.
Next I hot glued a mini grapevine wreath to the wood slice.
A little green moss filled in the empty space around the birdhouse.
Then I glued the candlestick to the terracotta saucer. Once that was dry I glued the birdhouse to the top of the candlestick.
For a finishing detail, I added a couple of mini eggs next to the greenhouse.
I made a smaller birdhouse candlestick too! For the second one, I just chalk-painted the birdhouse and instead of the mini eggs, I glued on a little bird…tweet!!
