Here are a few easy ways that I brought a Spring look to my living room. Let me show you the easy ways to refresh your living room for Spring.
Oh my gosh, today is the First Day of Spring! I can’t believe it is finally here, although there is sadly still snow on the ground here in New England
2023 Bloggers’ Best Spring Home Tours
If you are visiting my site after touring Julie from My Wee Abode and it is your first time here, welcome new friends to Cottage on Bunker Hill! I’m Jennifer and live in the completely opposite corner of the country from Julie who is down there in warm Southern Cali…I am up here in New Hampshire (currently freezing!!)
As always, a big thanks to my sweet friend Kelly from The Tatttered Pew for organizing this home tour of 30 homes that will be running all week. Wait until you see all the ideas for decorating your home for Spring!!
My specialty is showing you how you can create a beautiful home on a budget, I especially love to recreate the looks I find in all those designer home catalogs!
Today I am going to show you the ways that I decorated my living room for Spring without buying lots of new things but instead reusing what I already have.
Spring Living Room
Our home is just 5 rooms on one floor but I make good use of every square inch of the space and it never feels small or cramped at all.
The living room area has 3 spaces really: the TV/sectional area, the entryway/front door, and the walking space that leads from the back of the house to the front door and kitchen. Or at least that is how I think of it when I am decorating.
Let me show you the main space of the living room and what I did to go from my cozy winter look to something a little more fun for Spring.
Dramatic Gallery Wall
The most dramatic change in this living room area was increasing the size of my gallery wall that is behind the sectional. Go big or go home I guess!
Here is what it looked like last Spring. More of a cottage vibe.
I’ve been bringing in more green colors into my living room whereas before I used lots of blues and rusts as my accent colors.
In the Fall I added a green area rug and accent chair and relocated my pretty blue/rust rug into my bedroom.
I had been seeing moody, gallery walls on Pinterest and fell in love with the look of them. Of course, it took me a while to figure out what I wanted for the artwork.
After doing some research I ended up buying a set of digital prints on Etsy and then found a bunch of public domain artwork on various museum websites and downloaded them as well.
Most artwork that is over 100 years old is considered in the public domain and we can all use it for free. If you go to the big museum websites, browse their collections and if the image is in the public domain you can download the file right to your computer. Fun fact that I don’t think many people know about.
You can check out my post on Where to Find Free Artwork for some ideas.
Even the digital artwork images that I bought on Etsy are public domain but spending the 9 bucks saved me the time it would have taken me to find what museum had each image and then download it.
Small Space Solution: Narrow Console Table
Small home living tip! Having your furniture pushed up against the walls can look pretty boring, but what can you do when your living room is small?? The perfect solution was adding a super narrow console table behind my sectional.
It gives me enough room to add plants or decor for an added layer of styling in the room. It’s perfect for a small lamp, which I had done in the past, or framed photos.
Now that Spring is here the living room is getting so much morning sunlight, the plants are loving it!! By February all my plants are starting to look a little sad but they have all perked up so much in the past month from the additional light they are getting.
This glass cloche was a thrift store find last Spring. I put a little bird’s nest in it and rested it next to a few flea market vintage books.
Coffee Table Styling for Spring
On top of the coffee table, I have a large round rattan tray. Inside I added my DIY Vintage Bunny Rabbits, plus a neat-looking ivy plant, vintage books, and a small planter with dried flowers. My exact Threshold tray is sold out but this one would work
It took me a while to find the perfect coffee table for this area. This table reminds me of driftwood with the gray/brown natural wood tones but really sold me was the curved legs.
And like most of my furniture, I am always looking for extra storage opportunities. This coffee table has a bottom shelf I added 2 wicker baskets to store my magazines and an extra throw blanket to keep the room looking tidy.
Update Throw Pillows for Spring
To freshen up the look of my throw pillows all I did was swap out one of the pillow covers.
After scrolling through Amazon I found the perfect one! This vintage toile pillow cover was a bit eclectic and the greens and beiges went with the other accent colors in the room.
Plus the red tones picked up the red tones in the print of the lady with the basket on her head. Bonus, it was only $18.99.
The faux leather, dark green, and linen pillow covers are all from Amazon- I have had them all for over a year and they still look great.
If you are a throw pillow fanatic, my best advice is to opt for changing the throw pillow covers instead of buying new pillows each season…they take up so much space to store.
Throw Pillows
Styling a Bookcase in the Living Room
Behind the sectional on the far wall of the living room is a tall bookcase. Having a tall piece in the back of this small room brings the eye upward and gives the illusion of a bigger space.
This 5-shelf bookcase is a dupe for the Pottery Barn Margaret Bookcase that sells for $1400 dollars! It’s just great to have another place to decorate in the living room.
For Spring my general vibe was “go green” I think. Well, really a combo of green and natural earthy colors.
The collection of items is a mix of gifted (the large basket and natural teak bowl are gifts from Indonesia), thrifted, Walmart, and antique store finds.
Budget Styling Tip: Shop your own home! One of my styling secrets is to just move things around, I am constantly moving small decor items from one room to another.
Spring Living Room: TV Console
Nestled in the opposite corner from the bookcase is the TV area. As much as I would love a Frame TV it wouldn’t work in my living room. The TV is wall mounted on an arm so we can angle it towards the sectional when we need to.
Fun tip: you can search “frame tv” on YouTube and there are loads of video options that will play vintage art that looks like still prints but won’t destroy your TV (never pause on a single image because you can destroy your TV).
The media console actually has an electric fireplace built in! It is so cozy on chilly winter nights when I’m under my blanket watching cheesy Christmas movies.
To layer in more natural elements I have a stack of seagrass storage boxes on the console.
Spring Living Room: Entryway Area
On the opposite end of the living room are the entryway space and the front door. The only wreath you will find in my home that I didn’t make is the one hanging on the inside of my front door. It is from Ikea and I fell in love with the mossy mushroom look of it and wouldn’t be able to recreate it.
If you are looking for a durable rug for your entryway this Safavieh Cape Cod Handwoven Natural/Blue Rug is fantastic. It’s woven denim and jute and I’ve had it for a year now and it looks exactly the same as when I put it down.
Last Fall, I gave a console table that I had had for years a facelift and repainted it for the entryway. It was a coastal seafoam color and I wanted a more natural wood color table for the space. To achieve the look I used chalk paint in a light beige color and then topped it with a coat of antique wax.
What you see in this picture cost me a total of about $10 to buy! The candle holder was from Goodwill, the vase was a $5 flea market find (see what it used to look like and how I transformed it), and the oil painting was $3 at a yard sale a few years ago.
The magic of spray paint transformed this beat-up Goodwill find and now I love its modern look.
An interesting fact about this gem of a painting that I found. When I saw it at a yard sale I grabbed it because of the frame but after googling the artist’s name on it “Constance Stella” I found out that she was the Mother of the famous modern artist Frank Stella.
They were from Massachusetts which would make sense that I found it at a yard sale just over the border in New Hampshire. I have tried a couple of times to contact Frank Stella to see if he would want his Mother’s artwork but never heard back. He is in his late 80s now.
An idea for a quick homemade potpourri: I saved the spray roses from my Trader Joe’s flower arrangement that I shared recently and sprinkled my favorite rose essential oil over them. It adds a light pretty scent that you smell as you walk by.
Spring Living Room Tour: Console Cabinet
Against the wall, I have my favorite piece of furniture. I just love this console cabinet.
It has so much storage inside and is really beautiful too. This is where I keep all of my table linens, placemats, and extra vases that I use seasonally.
One new purchase for Spring was these stunning magnolia stems that I found at Michaels. They really look much more expensive than they were, especially if you snag them on sale.
Never enough plants! On a pedestal that I found thrifting I squeezed in just one more plant.
Styling Tip: stack a couple of coffee table books and add a decorative bowl or plant on top for a Pottery Barn look.
This paper mache bowl was a DIY project and I filled it with 2 greenery balls that I found at Hobby Lobby.
At the other end of the cabinet, I have a table lamp along with my latest DIY project, moss mushrooms, and a flower print that I designed and added to a rustic frame.
You can download this pressed flower image at home and print it yourself. When I print I use watercolor paper (just trim it to copy paper size)…it gives an authentic art look because of the textured look of the paper.
Spring Living Room: End Table
Even my end table has a small basket for storage on the shelf for gardening books. A vase of fresh eucalyptus is an inexpensive way to add real greenery to your home. Trader Joe’s always has it in stock and it is only $3.99 a bunch and lasts for weeks, you can even use the dried eucalyptus for craft projects or wreaths later.
Green Accent Chair in the Living Room
To complete my living room I bought a green accent chair last year. It’s a smaller-scale piece that fits perfectly in the living room. The lower back doesn’t cut into your view when entering the room which helps to create a nice flow.
It also matched perfectly with my green area rug in the living room.
Let me tell you, it was not easy to find a decent-looking green chair!! This heathered green has a nice neutral tone to it and I liked the more modern shape of it. It is not a squishy chair at all, it’s quite firm which I like if I’m working on my laptop there.

What a magnificent tour of your beautiful home Jennifer. Your gallery wall is so pretty, and I love how you can change it out for the seasons.
I agree the legs of your coffee table are perfect for your space.
And the moss mushroom, lol, I just did a project for a Pinterest live with moss mushrooms today. Great minds think alike!
Oh, I’ll have to check out your Pinterest live!!
I’m new to your blog and have to say your home is beautiful and so homey! We share a similar style and you’ve given me some great ideas. How many of the magnolia stems from Michael’s did you use in the wicker vase? Those are so pretty, and I was just in Michael’s today, now I need to go back as I have the perfect giant thrifted urn style (Pier One) vase from a garage sale they would look perfect in. Thanks so much for sharing!
Hi Vicki, I used 3 of them! They are fantastic, seriously the quality is so nice they remind me of the ones I saw down at the Magnolia store when I was there.
Such a beautiful tour of your living room Jennifer! Your gallery wall is a dream, I have such a hard time creating those. I love all of your spring touches, thank you for the tour!
Thanks, Heidi! It was a kinda throw it all up and see what works project!!
A beautiful home tour, my sweet friend. I absolutely love your gallery wall of art. Every time you add to it, the gallery looks even more amazing. I also love that coffee table you have in your family room. Like you, I am trying to find something to work. The one you have is really pretty yet has that worn look to it as well.
Yes, love that table! It was more than I like to pay for things but it is exactly what I wanted! It’s a small room and most coffee tables are just too big for the space.
Great tour Jen! I enjoy seeing how your style has evolved in the last couple of years! That gallery wall is amazing, I love the curated feel! Happy Spring, hope your weather warms up soon!
OMG, we are getting snow tomorrow! I…just…can’t!! Need to decorate my porch for Spring.
Your home looks cozy and lovely, Jennifer! And I love your coffee table, too! I actually love many of the furniture pieces you have! Happy spring, and happy touring! Pinned!
Thank you so much, Julie!
Jennifer, your living room styling is gorgeous!! I’m in love with the gallery wall and that’s a great tip for the skinny console table behind the sofa. So many things to love in this room – the DIY gold rabbits, the amazing peaceful color palette, and so many real live plants!!
Thank you, Kate! Seriously, I need the plants to help me get through the long, cold, dark winters here! Having living things around helps my mental state.
Jennifer, I love your new gallery wall. It’s so fun! And you know I am obsessed with those bunnies. I saw some in my Hobby Lobby a week ago and just about got them to try your makeover. Now I’m wishing I would have.
I hope your snow melts soon! Happy to be hopping with you. Pinned!
You totally should! Those bunnies have such great texture to them, a good inexpensive project.
Jennifer your gallery wall is a scroll stopper, and I love your artwork selections! The Stella piece is a nice little jewel! Lovely spring tour!
Thanks, Michelle! It was fun putting the wall together.
Jennifer, I love your tour and the plants you have incorporated. I have the same Toile in our bedroom. It’s my favorite! Your gallery wall is really pretty. Here’s hoping you get a break from the cold soon!

Aww, Kim, thanks so much!!
Your living room looks lovely! I have used the toile fabric on your pillow cover for several small upholstery projects. If anyone is looking for it it’s called Bosphorus by Covington and you can get it in 3 colorways.
Oooh, thanks for that tip, Melissa! I just Googled it…geez, I wish I could sew because I love it in the green!
Friend…your home is looking so pretty! You know I am a BIG fan of anything toile, so that pillow cover is my fav!! You know I love your gallery wall!! Happy spring, Jennifer! The wait is over!! 💐💛
I can see my daffodils so I feel better already…and my face didn’t freeze off walking to the mailbox!! But there are so many sticks and branches down that it’s an obstacle course, good thing I have catlike reflexes😺
I love the green, botanical vibe your living room has right now! And that gallery wall is absolutely amazing. So perfect with the live plants on the skinny table behind; great tip for small spaces. This room has come a long way since daycare!
No kidding Lora!! I was laughing with my son last night that one of the little girls would flick the dirt out of my plants when she got mad!!
