Autumn in New England is magical! It comes in slowly and you might miss it because Summer is putting on its grand finale. Then one morning you wake up and you know it’s here…the smell of Fall! Clean crisp air fragranced with the scent of the drying leaves and the smoke from a neighbor’s fire to chase off the chill.
Bloggers’ Best Fall Home Tours
This is a fun week if you are looking for Fall inspiration for your homes! Kelly from The Tattered Pew has gathered 30 bloggers to open up their doors and share their best decorating ideas for Fall!! I love these home tours and get so many ideas from this group of gals!!
If you are hopping over from Kristin at White Arrows Home…can you even believe how amazing her home is??!! I love looking at her pictures, it must feel like you are on vacation all the time!!
For my new visitors, I’m Jennifer and I’ve lived in New England my entire life, currently living in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire with my husband and sons. I love sharing ideas with readers on how to create a beautiful home that won’t break the bank.
Adding Touches of Fall
When decorating for Fall I bring in natural elements and colors that surround my New England home. I headed outside and gathered pine cones, colorful branches, and the final few sunflowers from my garden.
Sunflowers mixed with red crabapple-filled branches and delicate greenery create a happy welcome for friends stopping by.
Setting an Autumn Table
For my tablescape, I used warm browns, soft creams, and copper tones and layered in natural textures for a fun Fall look. I made the mini pumpkins out of dollar store foam ones and added pieces of pinecones gathered from my woods to create one-of-a-kind decorations.
My formula for decorating involves mixing vintage and thrift store items with a couple of DIYs, something new, and I usually manage to sneak a dollar store find in there somewhere!
Fall Centerpiece
When I was thinking about a centerpiece to fit in with the natural Fall feeling of my tablescape I came up with this sweet pumpkin idea (my most creative ideas usually come to me in the wee morning hours). It’s made from the leftover seagrass rush I had from another project. It looks perfect atop of a thrift store $2 find!!
Decorating a Hutch for Fall
One of my favorite spots to decorate is this corner kitchen hutch. The hutch is original to the house and I found it in the basement when we moved in. It’s on its 3rd color…what can I say, I like to paint things!!
Hutches are a perfect spot to add your personality and a little fun to your seasonal decorating.
Using my same decorating formula, I gathered a few thrift store steals like the Robinson Ransbottom bean pot on top of the hutch ( I found it for just a few dollars at a local thrift store and felt like I had robbed a bank when I walked out with it!!).
I fell in love with this Hearth & Hand green pitcher when I saw it in the new Fall line. The color is so rich and pretty.
Fall Favorites
I kept it simple and added a bunch of dried wheat to the pitcher.
A formerly red thrift store ceramic pot that I painted shades of copper is used as a planter.
To even out the darker wood and metallic tones in my hutch I added a stack of small white plates.
I added my DIY Wood Bead Pumpkin on top.
A vintage stack of books and a few seasonal touches finished off the hutch for Fall.
Wall Basket
The wall basket was from Green Plum Vintage Goods in Newburyport, MA. I’d never seen a basket like it and knew it would fit in perfectly on this wall.
One of my favorite finds this Fall were these apple picks from Michael’s, I used them to make this wreath and also made a YouTube video.
Thanks so much for touring my New England Fall home!! I’m so glad you stopped by today for a visit.
Next up of the Bloggers’ Best Home Tours are my friends Anne and Ann Marie of Simply2Moms please go check out their Fall home tour. I got a chance to meet them last Summer at a conference and they are awesome-sauce!!
