I bought the kitchen hutch quite a few years ago…when I was just starting to get into furniture refinishing and decorating. It was the inspiration for an entirely new style for me…that whole shabby chic that evolved into Fixer Upper. I never imagined that I would end up being a blogger writing about it!
Oh, it’s so pretty but a little too big for my kitchen here on Bunker Hill So it’s been hibernating in my basement…which was sad for a piece that I loved so much!
I knew the perfect new job for it to do…update my workspace.
My Workshop
Down in my basement, I have a corner dedicated to my workshop. This is the space I can work on my DIY projects, come up with new creations, and store all my supplies. I also wanted to create a space where I could film videos; that’s where my pretty hutch comes into play!
I’m gonna be honest…it was a mess! It needed some TLC. I started with an afternoon of decluttering and organizing my supplies…just doing that sparked my creativity!!
Next, I set up my hutch to make it look like it was in my kitchen. I wanted a homey, pretty background to use in my DIY videos (stay tuned!!)
I didn’t have to look far for decor and pieces to use to decorate…I have quite a collection of vintage pieces (surprise!)
I’m so happy I have a spot to display so many of my things! I’ve collected so many cool vintage pieces over the past 10 years.
Even found a spot for one of my vintage scales on top of the hutch.
You can see my hutch when I decorated it for Fall and then Christmas
Video/Photography Space
Another goal for my workshop was to set up a decent space for filming and photographing projects.
The family who built this house and lived here before us had an upholstery business so there are some cool old work tables left behind.
Now, I can set up a couple of tripods and lights and still have room to move around and work on a project.
Here’s the “behind the scenes” look at my workbench. There’s a few supplies for upcoming projects out and some DIYs in process.
Keeping it real…I have aloooot of supplies! Thank goodness this built in work bench is strong!!
I hang a few of my wreath forms on the pegboard (you would die if you saw the pile of wreaths in boxes on the other side of the basement…I may have an addiction!!
Along with my wreath addiction…I may have a faux flower problem!!!
Lights, Camera, Action…
I’ve been busy utilizing my kitchen hutch background already!! I’m working on my second video now.
So when you catch one of my videos don’t give away my secret that this is actually my basement.
Oh my goodness! Leslie told me your workshop was amazing and she was right! somehow i missed your post when we had the link party! I love your work area! It reminds me of my flower shop except yours is so much better organized! thanks for sharing! and don’t be surprised if I “steal” a couple of ideas when I finally get my area set up!
Thank you Kim!!! You probably missed it because I posted a little late…
Jennifer what a lovely piece! I too have an antique china cabinet in my office/work room. This room will be my focus for the next ORC. Right now I have no inspiration so the sky is the limit. I love the white. It’s a great neutral for all of your fabulous finds!
It’s one of my favorite things!! Oh, office/work room is perfect for the ORC!!
Stunning and such a beautiful setting. Great Photos!
Thank you Laurie!!
This worked out perfectly for your workspace. How cool that the previous family left the old tables. This was my first time joining in the group challenge and I had s much fun!
What a great space to create and to call your own, Jennifer! No one would ever know it is in the basement. The workbench is great and the hutch is so pretty! Thanks for sharing your beautiful hutch and your creative space with us.
Thanks Kim…Just off camera is the pile of stuff I didn’t get to organize last weekend!! I’ll be starting my seeds down here soon too…looking forward to gardening so much this year!!
Oh, how perfect!! I love having a special “studio”. Amazing! A place to work, film, and create. Swooning over here!
Thanks Leslie!! It’s good to have a separate space…I have a small house so I’m thankful to have somewhere for all my stuff!
