Easy Summer Decorating Ideas

In: DECORATING, Decorating Tips & Tricks, Home Tours, Summer Decorating and Projects

Welcome to the Blogger’s Best Summer Home Tour week!! So many talented ladies strutting their stuff this week… I love them all!! This week Kelly from The Tattered Pew rounded up 30 bloggers to share their homes with you; stop by every day this week to follow the tour.

If you are here from Stacy’s page…isn’t she amazing!! She’s done so much work to make her outdoor space a place you never want to leave!!

I’m Jennifer…a New England gal who loves to show readers how to create a home they love that is totally affordable. I love simple, coastal cottage decor…with lots of DIYs thrown in!!

It feels like we New Englanders wait for the fleeting months of Summer forever!! I know some of you live in hot climates where you stay inside during the Summer, but we try and spend every second we can outside joying our beautiful part of the country.

So for the Summer, I tend to keep my decor super simple! A few seasonal touches are sprinkled throughout the house.

Adding Summer Touches To My Dining Area

In my dining area, I switched out my Spring flowers for a simple pitcher full of Queen Anne’s Lace stems. I found them at Walmart a couple of years ago and they are so pretty!! You can see what this space looked like this Spring.

dining table with white flowers

I love adding natural elements to my decor every season. For the Summer I used simple woven placemats with white farmhouse plates and topped it off with a Studio McGee napkin tied with a small length of seagrass rope.

… and small starfish to add a little bit of coastal to the table setting.

Kitchen China Cabinet

Well, I’ve kept my kitchen hutch the same color for a year now…I think it’s been 3 colors in 3 years!! I still really love this green shade (SW Coriander and Olive).

green china hutch

The inside of the hutch is decorated with things I already had. I gathered up a few brown-toned pieces: a wicker tray, a cake stand, and a little planter that I found for $1 at the thrift store!!

Then layered in lots of greenery and plants.

OK…total side note people…but I’m typing this from one of Joanna Gaines’ AirBnBs in Waco!!!!!! You can read about my trip to Magnolia and staying at a Magnolia rental here

When I decorated my hutch I had to make room for the Queen of decorating…and her cookbooks are so pretty and the recipes are super yummy too!!!

Magnolia kitchen cookbooks

A Dollar Tree glass vase was a quick DIY project using the same method as this vase project.

Vase filled with flowers

A bunch of wild roses from my backyard were the perfect size for the vase too!

flowers in a brown vase

Aren’t these faux raspberry and blackberry stems the cutest??? Nothing says Summer like berries.

This bean pot was a thrift store find!! It’s a Robinson Ransbottom bean crock that even still had the lid…seriously, why would anyone dump this off at the thrift store??? Crazy!! Plus it was only a few dollars….love a good bargain!!

Easy Summer Decorating In The Living Room

Coastal accents blend perfectly with my living room design.

For the Summer I added this cool whale’s tale to the top of my cube organizer wall. It was a Christmas Tree Shop find!!

In exciting news….I haven’t killed this String Of Pearls plant in a couple of months!! (January update…in sad news both the String of Pearls & Pilea have kicked the bucket!!)

A couple of pretty starfish and one of the only sand dollars I have ever found whole finish off my coastal look.

Bedroom Wall Art

For the corner of my bedroom, I added a collection of seashell shadow box frames. On my Facebook page you can see a video of me making 2 of them live. I was inspired by a shell shadowbox that I had seen on Pottery Barn…for $399 beans!!!

Even if you think you can’t do DIYs…this one is super easy!! Just a little hot glue and some shells.

Well, that’s how I added a few Summer touches to my home this year! Please go visit my friend Jennifer over at The Flowering Farmhouse to see how she decorated hers this year!!

If I ever got to the New England area in the summer, I’m afraid I’d never leave. It’s super hot and humid here in TX so I’m so jealous of y’all. I would spend everyday outside. Loved your tour, your treasures and I’m with you, why would anyone leave that crock in a thrift store?! That’s crazy. Happy summer and thank you for sharing some of your beautiful home.
