Master Bedroom Makeover

In: Decorating Tips & Tricks

The real challenge of the One Room Challenge was getting a couple of the items for my master bedroom makeover!! They didn’t get here in time for the official reveal deadline of the One Room Challenge. Hey, it’s 2020…does anything go smoothly!!!

Before

My bedroom had been the same for a while; it’s pretty, but I was ready for a change! The goal was to create a cozy retreat from the world and a quiet spot for me to work on this website at night.

On my last update of my master bedroom makeover I shared my new bedding and the accent wall I did behind my bed with peel & stick wallpaper (which I am totally in love with!!!)

Peel & Stick Wallpaper

If you are looking for a good DIY project for the winter I would suggest doing a peel & stick wallpaper accent wall. There are so many amazing design choices out there too.

And don’t we all need a good project to make the winter go by faster!!!

New Bedding

I updated all my bedding. I was going for a cozy and feminine feel in my room.

Bedding Sources

Nightstand

For my husband’s night stand I brought out a small cabinet that I had refinished a few years back.

I love this little cabinet! It was a $15 thrift store find. It’s one of my rotating pieces…I use it in my entryway sometimes. The original drawer pulls are worth more than what I paid for it!

Seating Area

When I was planning my master bedroom makeover I knew I wanted to make a work area for myself. I usually write my blog either at the kitchen counter or sitting in bed…and sitting in bed makes me want to go to sleep!!

I quickly ruled out a desk for my bedroom and opted for a comfy chair and ottoman from Walmart.

This corner has great daylight from the two big windows next to it. Even in the evening, when I’m working on my blog it’s such a cozy spot to type away.

Originally, I was going to change out the area rug but wow, it really looks so pretty in my updated space!

Electric Fireplace

electric fireplace

Since we moved from our old house, I have missed having a fireplace. I added the second best thing to our bedroom…an electric heater/fireplace, This is the spot where I had a long dresser. I emptied it out and reorganized my closet to house all my clothes.

Two things I love about the electric fireplace it: having a mantle to decorate and putting it on at night and watching a Hallmark movie…it’s sooo cozy!!

Changed The Lighting

  • small chandelier light

Goodbye boob lights!! The ceilings are only 8 ft so as much as I would have loved a more extravagant chandelier I needed something with a low profile. The lights I found on Amazon are beautiful but see all those glass crystals???…you have to hang each one on and my fingers swear there were 5 million of them!

Flower Prints

An inexpensive way I updated some of the wall art in my room was to turn a couple of my garden flower photos into 16 x 20 black and white prints.

My Favorite Spot!

I really love coming into my room at the end of the day! First, it looks so much bigger than when I had a long dresser and cabinet along this wall! The flow and feel have completely changed; it’s like checking into a nice hotel at the end of the day…if only I could convince one of my boys to bring me room service!!!

Beautiful room makeover Jen! I’d never thought about removing the long dresser and adding an electric fireplace. What a fabulous idea!
