Unique Fall Decor Ideas: Get Creative with Thrift Store Finds

It doesn’t have to cost you a fortune to create a stylish entryway for Fall. Today I’m going to show you how I’m decorating with thrift store finds for Fall and some of my favorite vintage pieces.

If you’ve been around here for a quick minute then you already know that I love a good thrift store score!! Not only can you find some hidden treasures but it’s my favorite place to search out pieces to use for some of my DIY projects.

My favorite local thrift store is Savers in Newington, NH. I usually hit it every other month and typically leave with a haul. But there have been times that I’ve been in and out in a minute because it’s wiped out…so not every time is a celebration!!

My last trip filled my shopping carriage… I had heart palpitations when I was finding so many great pieces!!

One of my favorite finds was a vintage stoneware crock jug for just $6.99!! When I saw it on the shelf I ran over to grab it.

I found so many things for $1.99 like this wood pumpkin, basket, and cute pear candle.

Quick Entryway Table Makeover Before Decorating for Fall

Now I was ready to decorate my small entryway area for Fall! At the beginning of Summer, I moved some of my furniture around, and now going into Fall I wasn’t thrilled with the small cabinet that I had by the front door.

Friends, I was ready to order a new table from Amazon when I remembered I had an old table that almost looked like the one I was about to order!!

It’s hard to tell from the photo but I had it painted a light coastal blue with gray detailing.

This table makeover has only 2 steps! The first step was to paint the entire table with an oatmeal shade of Folk Art chalk paint.

Once the oatmeal chalk paint was completely dry I brushed Waverly Antique Wax over the entire table with a big paintbrush and then wiped off the excess with a rag.

I was trying to create a light wood look for the table using paint and not having to strip and stain it.

Decorating Entryway Table For Fall

OK, when I decorate I usually pull out a big pile of stuff and then figure out what works and what doesn’t. It’s just how my mind works!

So I gathered up some of the Fall thrift finds and a few vintage pieces…a few pumpkins and Fall-ish things and went to work to create a pretty entryway.

I had to use that great stoneware jug! Then I added my $1.99 wooden pumpkin. For a Fall touch, I placed the pumpkin atop a few preserved oak leaves.

At the other end of the table, I evened out the tall jug on the left of the table with a bronze, round metal tray (Walmart) and a pumpkin from Michael’s. Michael’s has some super realistic-looking fake pumpkins this year and they are on sale as I’m writing this.

Of course, I added a plant to the table! It’s nice to have something that is alive and organic in your spaces. Plants add so much life to a room and as the Fall days go by and the leaves all drop you can keep a little green in your life.

The brass planter was another thrift store makeover! I had seen a planter at Magnolia that was over $35 then came across a couple of silver containers on the back of the shelf at the thrift store that had the same shape and decided to make them myself!

For a sweet touch, I used the 2 vintage children’s books I picked up last month at Lee & Co. Both books are from the 1880s

On top of the stacked books, I added an Autumn Leaf Clay Dish that is from the set that I DIYed a few weeks back and a few dried starflowers from my garden.

In the crock jug, I popped in a few dried wheat stems that I found at Hobby Lobby. I loved the black accents on them!

Instead of a small picture, I tucked in one of the pressed flower clay plaques you may remember from when I showed you how to make them last Spring.

They are perfect accents to use year-round.

On the bottom shelf of the table, I added a picnic basket that I’ve had for more than 25 years, along with a set of vintage green books that I found at Sage Farm Antiques, and a glass lantern from…I honestly can’t remember!!

A quick and easy way to add a little style and a French country touch to a set of vintage books is to tie a simple jute string around them and pop in either a stem of dried flowers or even a feather.

For a pop of Fall color, I crisscrossed a pinecone and pumpkin garland along the bottom.

In the top pocket, there’s a mushroom print, feathers, dried poppy pods, and a couple of other small natural-looking accents.

Do you love free artwork?? Me too!! You need to check out The Graphics Fairy website. She has so many images that you can download for free.

This mushroom image had the perfect vintage look to it too. One of my secrets is to use watercolor paper or canvas printer sheets to get that authentic artwork look.

For this print I used a piece of watercolor paper, you do have to trim off the excess so it fits in the printer (just use a regular sheet of printer paper as your guide).

Next to the table on the floor is the double decalitre that I found at The Collector’s Eye antique shop in Stratham, NH.

The dried hydrangeas are from last year’s crop. Unfortunately, this year has been a dud…I barely have 4 flowers!!

So using mostly thrifted, vintage, and pieces that I moved from other spots in my house I put together an interesting area in my small informal entryway for Fall.
