Budget-Friendly Ways to Welcome Spring into Your Home

In: DECORATING, Decorating Tips & Tricks, Spring & Easter Ideas and Projects

Here are my budget-friendly ways to welcome Spring into your home. My easy ideas to make your home feel like Spring… and shake off the winter blues!

Refresh Your Home For Spring

Alright people…don’t even try to rationalize with me and tell me that the official start of Spring is still 5 weeks away…I…do…not…care!!! I’m so over the winter blahs that I need to start pretending it’s already here.

But don’t worry my fellow New Englanders…I wouldn’t dream of putting the shovels away…you know that would trigger a Nor’easter!!!

Even though the temps are still chilly outside there are a few easy ways that I start to switch over from my minimal winter home style and refresh my spaces for Spring.

This post may include affiliate links; you can read my disclosure policy here.

Bring in fresh flowers and plants to add color and life to your home

This is an easy and inexpensive way to make your home feel fresh and alive!

Grab a bouquet of tulips at the grocery store. My local market has them for $5.99 and I just saw the prettiest tulip colors at Trader Joe’s for $8.99.

pink primroses

Most of your local greenhouses probably have houseplants. Maybe even potted primrose and African violets or pots of tulips for sale at this time of the year. For under 20 bucks, you can add a couple of pops of color around your house.

It’s just nice to have pretty flowers to look at, isn’t it?? It always brightens my mood!!

Looking to add new plants (always go plant crazy in January when I have the winter blues!!) All the big home improvement stores and even Walmart have a big variety of houseplants stocked up now.

Check out all the reasons to add houseplants to your homes that I recently wrote about.

Change Out Winter Bedding

Start swapping out that heavy winter bedding for lighter and spring-themed linens.

This is one thing I’m getting ready to do. In the Fall I added a terracotta duvet cover and bedspread to our bed. It was the perfect cozy color for the cold months but now I am over it… and on the hunt for something lighter in color. My husband never really liked it so he will be thrilled!!

The Casaluna bedding line from Target is very similar looking to the bedding from Pottery Barn but for a fraction of the price!

Spring

Bedding Ideas

Here are a few budget-friendly but still nice quality bedding options for Spring.

Create a Focal Point

Create a focal point in your room by adding a large piece of wall art or a statement mirror.

By just adding a new piece of art or adding a new mirror in your entryway or living room you can create a new feel to the space.

Mirrors reflect the light through a space and can make it feel brighter and bigger…especially if the mirror is reflecting a pretty view!

I recently changed out the mirror that was hanging over the console table by my front door. It was on the smaller size before and while it was pretty it really wasn’t adding much to the space.

I happened to find an amazing mirror that was on clearance at Lowe’s that was marked down to $23! It’s so much bigger than my old mirror and boy, it really makes the space feel grander!

Here are 4 pretty-looking wall mirrors to update a space.

Free Art Downloads
download artwork here

Here’s a great way to save some $$$ on artwork!! I’ve been gathering public domain artwork to update my home for Spring and I want to share them with you!! I put the images in a pdf file for you to download and they are sized to 8×10″.

You can even print them out on your home printer.

My trick to getting the canvas look is to use a sheet of watercolor paper, but you do need to trim it down to copy paper size.

Change Your Front Door Wreath

Take down that dead winter wreath and add something with a little color to your front door. While you are at it it’s time to change that dingy faded door mat too!!

You will feel so much better adding something Spring-y to your door…trust me!!! I want to encourage you to just make your own wreath for early spring.

forsythia wreath

Try this DIY Forsythia & Pussy Willow wreath, you can make it for under $20 plus it will only take you about 20 minutes to put together.

Here are over 30 of my DIY wreaths for you to make.

Pretty ideas for the entire year!

I know you will find one you love.

30+ DIY WREATHS

OK, I know not everyone likes to make their own wreaths so let me find you some pretty and affordable looks for this Spring online!

Budget-Friendly

Spring Wreaths

So pretty Spring wreath options that are under $30.

I just changed out my doormat. I had my DIY gingerbread house rug out there but it’s time to put this love knot rug back down. I have to say I bought this rug last Spring (pictured above) and used it through Fall and it still looks fantastic…usually, I only get a month or two with mats here in New Hampshire before they get cruddy looking.

A few nice Spring doormat options to refresh your front porch.

Add Some Spring Scents to Your Home

Grab a new candle or diffuser and bring some fresh scents into your home.

Don’t forget about potpourri…it’s everywhere this Spring!!

As much as I love the warmer scents of pumpkin, cinnamon, and spruce through the Fall and Winter now I am ready to lighten things up.

This diffuser is a bargain on Amazon…right now it’s $11.99!! I’ve had it for 4 months now and love it. It works really well and looks nice in my kitchen.

In my office, I have this diffuser that’s around $18 on Amazon. It’s huge, 500ml, and runs all day while I’m working in here. It has a remote too.

I love to diffuse a combination of grapefruit essential oil with this rose geranium one to make it feel like Springtime in my office.

My favorite budget-friendly candles are from…wait for it…Walmart!! The Better Homes and Gardens Red Lava Citrus that retails for $12.87 is a dupe for the viral Capri Blue Volcano candle, I think it smells better and is 1/3 the price!

Rearrange Your Space

living room

Here is one that doesn’t cost a thing! Try rearranging your furniture to create a new layout and open up the space. Swap around end tables or mirrors from one room to another.

This is one of my go-to’s!! Honestly, by simply moving around my accessories or swapping out a few pieces of decor you can give your room a new look and feel.

For me doing this usually sparks my creativity!! It’s the “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie” effect…

Declutter & Organize

Just take a little time to declutter your spaces and get rid of things you don’t love anymore.

You will be amazed how much brighter a room looks just by getting rid of the clutter!!

In January after I pack up the Christmas stuff I usually start purging old decor and things that I don’t want anymore.

Lighting

By just switching out your lighting or adding a statement lighting piece to your bedroom or living room can freshen up the space.

Try adding a floor lamp in your living room for extra ambient light. I added a more modern-looking arc floor lamp to my living room and love it…plus it is under $50!

I put together a bunch of Pottery Barn lookalike floor lamps that you have to check out!! I found so many floor lamps that look JUST like the ones on PB but for a fraction of the price!!

Add one of the new tiny lamps to a bookshelf or even on your kitchen counter for a trendy look.

cute little lamps!

Throw Pillow Covers

You don’t even have to buy entirely new pillows, there are super affordable options on Amazon for pillow covers.

As much as I love my fuzzy throw pillows it’s time to pack them away for another year. Lighten up your space with small floral prints and natural-looking fabrics.

Refresh

Throw Pillows

Here are a few affordable throw pillows to refresh your living room.

I have the natural-colored pillow covers and inserts pictured here.

Let In More Light

Open up your curtains and pull up the blinds to let the sun shine in!!

In the past week, I’ve noticed how much higher in the sky the sun is getting as we get closer to March.

During the winter months, the sun never gets higher than the tall pines behind my house so I don’t get much sun into my office…but now I’m like a cat sticking my face into the sunlight all afternoon!!

So put up those shades and let all that light flow into your home and count down the days until Spring really gets here!!

Girl, I am with you. I am SO over winter and ready for all things spring! I need to get going on decorating. Maybe that would make me feel better and forget about the sub-zero temps we have been having.😜

    Hi Jennifer
Loving the new Spring ideas. We have actually had a “non-winter” here on Cape Cod. Record cold one day and record warm the next! No measurable snow at all! So I keep thinking that it won’t be Spring until we get at least one good snowstorm….March can be fickle! My husband goes nuts when I buy pillows!! BUT, I love them and especially #8 with the birds embroidered on them! I AM in a purging mood so rooms and closets will feel much bigger soon. We do have an all glass conservatory so buying more plants makes perfect sense! We will wait a bit longer to change out the polar fleece sheets; they are sooooo comfy! But I have really cool summer linens ready to swap out as soon as the temps moderate. Thanks for all the happy ideas. This is going to be fun!

Kathy, It looks like there is rain/snow coming later this week. My husband is not a fan of throw pillows either.. especially all the ones we have on our bed! I haven’t been down to the Cape in so long but my son & his girlfriend took a ride down Saturday and went to the Dunbar House Tea Room. My husband played baseball in the Cape Cod League a zillion years ago too.

Ahhh… it wasn’t the best weekend weather wise but we love the Cape no matter the weather. You will have to come down during the summer to watch the Cape League baseball teams. Your husband must have been an awesome athlete! Many of the Cape Leaguers went on to the pros. I’m sure he would love to watch and reminisce!! Let me know if you visit, you are welcome at our home!!

He ended up with a career-ending shoulder injury but lots of his teammates went pro…I still have to hear all the stories! He coaches baseball part-time for a big youth program in New England.

Loved your Wreath for every season blog. They were all pretty but the ones I liked the most were the 2 summer wreaths that you went looking for flowers and interesting pieces to used for the wreath. The one with hydragenas simply lovely…swooning here…lol. I do like making my own wreaths as well. I have a friend that teases me saying he drives by looking at my door to see what season or holiday it is..😋
