Ideas For Making Over Thrift Store Vases
I hit the jackpot of thrift store vases when I was out at my local Savers a couple of weeks ago! I found some great thrift store pieces to makeover.
You can see my Pottery Barn knock-off vase that I recently did. It came out really cool!
This time I went for a more minimal look for the vases. Let me show you what I did…and it’s so easy!!

Before
When I was thrifting I found these two vases. I liked that they had similar shapes even though one was glass and the other ceramic.
First, I sprayed the glass vase with 2 coats of matte gray spray paint.
Once the spray paint was dry it was time to add a little detail to the vase.
Using painter’s tape, I taped off the top one-third of the vase.
Textured Paint
I want my vases to have that cool textured look that is popular right now. It’s easy to achieve too by adding Plaster of Paris to my chalk paint.
If you don’t have Plaster of Paris on hand you can use baking soda mixed into your paint.
Here’s a closer look at how what the paint looks like with the Plaster of Paris mixed into it. Don’t you love it??
Remember to remove the painter’s tape before the paint is dry!
For the white ceramic vase, I taped off just a small section on the neck of the vase and did the same textured paint.
While the paint was drying I went outside and cut a few Forsythia branches. It’s the end of Winter here and I wanted to bring some of the branches indoors to force. Their little yellow blooms are so joyful, aren’t they??
It’s so easy to force flowering branches, just cut a few and put them in a vase of water and wait…
Would you ever believe these were from a thrift store?
I love how they look like they were made for each other; just look at how the shapes complement each other.
…and if you look closely you can see a tiny yellow flower forming!!
Happy Spring, Friends!

Jennifer!! These look amazing! You make it look so simple. They look store bought and so pretty the way you have them displayed! Great job!
Thanks Kim! I’m on a vase kick lately.
