It doesn’t have to take hours to make your own ornaments this holiday season. Here’s an ornament I just made for my natural woodland-themed Christmas tree in about 5 minutes. Let me show you how easy it was to make a wood wreath ornament!

Wood Slice Wreath Ornament
When I was organizing my workbench last month before the Christmas DIY rush I found my basket of wood crafting supplies that were leftover from a couple of projects I did last year. (Countdown To Christmas Calendar & Rustic Christmas Tree Sign)
I had a bag of small wood slices and wanted to think of something that I could make with them.
step 1
To make sure my wreath was a circle and the center was open I grabbed a round wood lid and put it down on my workbench.
Anything round will work and you could even use something smaller if you want your ornament to have a smaller diameter.
I surrounded the lid with a single layer of the wood slices…Making sure that the sides touched.
When I was making the wreath ornaments I did play around with different wood slices to see which one fit better…they are all slightly different sizes and shapes.
step 2
The next step to making the wood slice wreaths is to do a second layer of the wood pieces.
To secure the wood slices in place I’m using wood glue…I think a strong hot glue would also work for making these ornaments.
For the second layer, I coated the back of the wood slice with glue and then placed it between two of the slices on the bottom layer.
By gluing the top layer of wood slices between 2 pieces from the bottom layer is what holds the ornament together.
step 3
Once I liked how the slices looked and were glued in place I took out the lid from the center. I used the palm of my hand to apply pressure around the ornament to make sure the bond would be tight.
The wood glue doesn’t take too long to dry, I just left it flat until then.
step 4
When the wood glue was dry, I used a piece of jute twine to make a hanger for the wreath ornament. I wrapped the jute around the ornament a couple of times and made a simple knot at the top, then made a loop and another simple knot to make a hanger.
I finished it off by tying a pretty green velvet bow onto the jute and left the tails hanging long.
The wood slice wreath is a perfect addition to my winter woodland-themed Christmas tree in my living room this year! You can see my complete living room holiday home tour to see how I decorated the rest of the room.
I also had a bag of larger wood slices; check out these DIY snowflake ornaments that I made…now these are super-duper easy to make and look amazing on my tree!!
