Coastal Style Living Room

In: DECORATING, Decorating Tips & Tricks

There are a couple of things you should know about me…I love home decor and I’m an unapologetic beach bum!! My favorite place to be is by the ocean; luckily I live just a few miles away! The colors you find along the coast make up a good portion of my home’s color palette…watery blues, soft greens, sandy beiges, and cloudy whites.

I would call my style New England Cottage/Coastal but my living room now is definitely coastal!

Before

sectional

Our sectional had definitely seen better days…it’s now down in my son’s mancave in the basement. I also wanted something lighter in color for my space.

Sectional

We bought a new sectional last Fall. It took me such a long time to find something that would fit in our small living room! Besides the size requirement, I also wanted it to have a modern shape and most importantly for it to be affordable.

My husband and I popped into Bob’s furniture store and they had just put this sectional out on the floor. It’s called The Lennox and it was $999. Perfect size, style, and color for my coastal vibe! It’s a dupe of the Pottery Barn Big Sur sectional (but a couple grand less!!)

I changed out the wall art behind the sectional. I had my DIY abstract wall art up but it looked way too small once the new couch arrived. This piece from World Market works so much better on the long wall.

The narrowest console table I could find sits behind the sectional and there’s enough space for a vase of my dried pampas grass from last year’s garden, a small lamp, and photo.

Coffee Table

Although I adored the square coffee table I had here, it was just way too big (the new sectional is deeper). This one fits so much better in the space. The bottom shelf comes in handy to house books and remotes.

The open design of the table keeps the space flowing.

Curtains

If you are looking for beautiful looking black-out curtain panels I love these Avalon blue velvet panels I found on Amazon. They come in so many colors too!

Storage

The other side of my small living room is where I store all the things!! Keeping with the coastal style I have a mix of water hyacinth baskets and woven bins in the Better Homes and Gardens Cube Organizers ( I’m such a huge fan of these!!)

On the faux brick wall I changed out the flower photo (moved it into my bedroom) and replaced it with an abstract print…the pattern reminded me of a sailing flag.

It took me months to find the perfect pillows…no joke!! I couldn’t find blue pillows anywhere until the new Hearth & Hand Spring line dropped. ( I have a post about it HERE.)

Thanks for coming along my coastal-style living room tour!! I hope I gave you a few ideas for incorporating casual coastal style into your home.
