Easy DIY Topiaries

By jennifer howard

Do you love the look of those expensive topiaries at your nursery? Here's a budget-friendly alternative...that's also easy to make!

YOU WILL NEED 2 TERRA COTTA POTS. MINE ARE 4.½ in WIDE.  YOU CAN FIND THEM AT YOUR CRAFT STORE YEAR ROUND USUALLY.

Spackle

To fake an aged look, I covered the pots in spackle. Once it dried I painted them an off white.

Paint

Add Floral Foam

I brushed the pots with antique wax  that brought out the teture from the spackle.  Then popped in a piece of floral foam.

Sticks

I grabbed some thin branches from my yard.  I cut 4 sticks to around 1 foot long. Using floral wire I secured 2 sticks together.

You will need 4 bushy floral picks to make a full looking topiary.  Look for a sturdy stem part.

Assemble Topiary

Using brown floral tape I wrapped each floral pick to secure it to the branches. Doing it 1 pick at a time then adding the next one.

Insert into the floral foam

Push the brach into the floral foam.  Then fill the pot with green moss & Spanish moss.

Here's my finished topiaries. Just take a minute to shape the topiaries into a natural shape. I bent an L shape with the lavender stems
